The LawSon Creek Bluegrass Band is a five piece band that plays traditional Bluegrass at its best. The humor, talent and musicianship is first rate. Three part harmony, reminiscent of the 1960's Bluegrass Bands bring tight vocal harmonies that will keep you leaning forward in your seat. If you are looking for a great show that will entertain you, or a Bluegrass Gospel Band that can minister through testimony and song, LawSon Creek just may be what you are looking for. At your first opportunity, please come and check out the LawSon Creek "Experience"....
James Walker: (THE BOSS) has been playing music in one form or another since the early 1960"s. Early memories of picking sessions on Sunday afternoon lasting well into the late evening are fond reflections of times past. Dance music in the mid to late 1960's and on into the 1970's have provided a basis for a love of music and a desire to share with others. In the LawSon Creek Band, James enjoys the support of superb harmonies and great instrument mixes. Fronting a band such as LawSon Creek is so much a pleasure when you have talented musicians to share the music with.
James came into the Bluegrass music scene in the early 1990's while playing with the Goose Creek Islanders. After the Islanders, came a group known as The Good News Boys, then Bay River Bluegrass and several others. Many Friday nights would find James sitting in the "circle" of musicians at Cove CIty, NC. learning from the "masters" about traditional music and its roots.
James resides with his wife Gloria and their three grandchildren, Danae, Justyce, and Pinky in the New Bern, NC area. James knows that the blessings of any talent he has comes through the Grace of GOD. The influence of Church and Family are ever present and thanks are always given for the opportunity of Salvation and the blessings of every day.
Mac McRoy: (BIG MAC) started playing music in 1999. Mac got his first guitar on a chilly December morning as a Christmas gift and from that moment on it has been "Katy Bar The Door". Mac's love for Bluegrass Music and the respect to keep it pure is unmatched by any in todays bluegrass music scene. Mac's stage presence will keep you in stiches and wanting for more. Mac currently plays banjo for LawSon Creek and sings tenor vocals for a strong harmony blend in the band. On occasion Mac also provides lead vocals for LawSon Creek on selected offerings and favorite Gospel numbers.
When Mac is not performing with LawSon Creek Bluegrass Band, you will often find him fronting another great Bluegrass and Gospel group, The Mac and Tammy McRoy Band.
Mac will be first to tell you that his talent comes from the Lord above. Mac says, "Thank GOD for Bluegrass Music. If Bluegrass is "in it", Big Mac is "in it."
Mac resides with his wife Tammy and their children Christine, Larry, and Emily in the Aurora, NC area.
Phillip Leggett: (STUMPER) comes from Williamston, NC. Music has been a big part of Phillip's life since early childhood. His father and uncles played string music in many locations throughout North Carolina. Phillip played and sang at a semi professional level with gospel groups during most of the 1970's and 1980's. He and his wife Susan sing together occasionally in church even today. Phillip has his own stump grinding business, hence the name "Stumper". At times on stage during the LawSon Creek experience, you may hear "This portion of the show is brought to you by Leggett's Stump Grinding. If there's a stump in your way, call Phillip today. Leggett's Stump Grinding."
Phillip's love for the Lord and his family has helped to make him a great person to work and perform with. Phillip is a talented baratone vocal and provides a great fiddle presence for the LawSon Creek Band.
Phillip and his wife Susan reside in the Washington, NC area.
(THE MANDO) comes from a musical family where there is always "pickin and Grinnin" . A delightful little fellow just waiting for someone to strike a note to please the ear. At this time, the Mando is asleep but is expected to awaken at any time.
Come back often to see new developments with this little fellow.
Mike Oliver: (THE REV) played in the school band as a child and continued to pursue the piano which he played for his dad during church. Mike started playing bass about three years ago after taking a job at Sawyer's Auto Paint Supply in New Bern, NC. In short time he was playing at a very advanced level and was ready for band duty. When asked to hold the bass spot for LawSon Creek, Mike jumped at the opportunity and is now a mainstay at holding the tempo for the band.
Mike currently is Pastor at Mary's Chapel Christian Church in Aurora, NC. His childlike demeanor and enthusiasm on the upright bass will keep you mesmerized and entertained during the LawSon Creek experience. You will definitely want to come back for more.
Mike says he loves the Lord first in life, then his family and music take a tight second. Mike has just started enjoying a new phase of life at age 53. Preaching the Gospel for the past 35 years, and playing bass for LawSon Creek bluegrass Band.
Mike and his wife Cheryl reside in the New Bern, NC area.
